The Project
The Paper the City project is an attempt at something creative, something resembling art, on the scraps and scribbles of the many receipts, leaflets, ticket-stubs and bubble gum wrappers that pass through our hands every day. Most are left in waste-baskets or on Denny’s tables, only a few feet from where they were made. A few will find their way into a new and strange adventure, hoping for that glorious permanent placement in a manilla folder marked, “Keepers”.
Every so often, a few lucky ones will find their way into the right hands and will live out their life with scribbles of Sharpie tattoos, pasted in a “2004 Fun” book of memories or pinned up on a diner’s back wall, beside a birthday card addressed to Julie.
“The artist is a receptacle for the emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” ~ Pablo Picasso
